This 30-story tower was designed and submitted in an international competition. The concept that shaped the design of the tower was the idea of the desert as an ocean. We envisioned the beacon at the top of the building guiding people to the city. At the intermediate scale, the building derives its sophistication from a gently curving curtainwall on two sides. This curve both softens the otherwise regular shape of the tower and, we hope, evokes images familiar to people in the region. The tower was designed as a mixed use building, with retail on the first two floors and primarily office space in the tower. It was also designed to be in conformance with the LEED certification standards, integrating as many sustainable principals as possible. |
